How Can discoloration And Swelling In The Finger Be Treated?

Daughter jammed her pinky finger at bball game. We have iced now for 2 days; we are seeing discoloration and her finger is very swollen. She has some mobility. Mixed thoughts on whether to visit ER for an xray. Again, we are icing, and we have put a splint on it and using the ring finger as well.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
I would recommend continue ice packs and add an over the counter pain killer like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen.
I would suggest getting an X ray early as a fracture or dislocation may need early intervention to avoid any permanent structural damage.

Hope this answers your question. Thank you.
